Fashion and Oppression
00:46
The topic
about fashion being an oppression is the talk of town, Fashion can sometimes be
oppressed or can make people oppressed. The perfect example for it is the
incident happened at the factory of Bangladesh. An incident that can not be
ignored.
Is fashion an oppression for a muslim woman?
As the reports say that western women see muslim women being ‘old-fashioned’ or someone with the backward mentality because they may not have any freedom to ‘wear’ whatever they want is that really the case?

Many Muslim women don’t just live their feminism but celebrate it, they don’t feel taking the hijab is an oppression for them. They are happy with it and carry it in a very elegant and graceful way. Western women take liberation as a way of using a lot of money on their wardrobes, make-up and accessories whereas they look at Muslim women the other way around because of the beliefs they follow and consider them as they are trapped by the thinking of their own.
Because of
the globalization and so much of the media and social networking around us,
young kids specially girls want to adapt the latest trends and fashion that is
being displayed by the top models and movie actors. This create the situation
of confusion for them as they may not be allowed or have access to that kind of
dresses because of their economical situation or it may be because they are not
free to do this.
With all
these things around, it has become hard to call fashion a liberation or an
obsession because to some communities it is liberation as they can adapt it
whenever and however they want but in some it’s totally opposite. But what
matters is if a professional woman spending a lot of money on her accessories
and make up, tends to keep the same rate of success in her professional life as
well? Is her husband and family members are getting the same amount of
importance as her habit of being fashionable is?
